The True Guardians of the American Dream

It all begins with an idea.

The American Dream is slipping—not because we stopped working hard, but because the rules have been rigged against us. Democrats must be the party that fights to restore that Dream. Not in bloodless, technocratic terms, but as a moral promise: that anyone who works hard and builds something should have a fair shot at a better life.

Here’s the key: government is not the enemy of that Dream. Government is the moral force that makes the magic of capitalism sustainable. It mitigates disruptions, corrects injustices, and—most importantly—provides a relief valve and a corrective loop for abuses. Think of it like a farmer tending a field: left untended, weeds and pests take over, the soil erodes, and the harvest fails. But when the field is cared for—protected, nourished, and balanced—it produces abundance for everyone. That is what government must do for capitalism: tend the field so the harvest of opportunity is there for all. That’s the killer app of government. That’s what gives the whole system legitimacy.

And let’s be clear: every functioning society has a government. The claim that government itself is the problem is a lie. In 1981, Ronald Reagan declared that “government is the problem.” Reagan’s line may have fit a moment. But four decades later, it’s been weaponized against the very people government was meant to serve. Americans feel the system is deeply rigged, and they are correct. Republicans answer by saying government cannot function—and then proving it. The real question is: will government be bought by the wealthy few, or owned by the people?

Because here’s the truth: the wealthy don’t hate government—they love it so much they bought it for themselves. And now they refuse to share, treating the American people as captive consumers, not holders of power. When Wall Street crashes, billionaires sprint to Washington for bailouts. When Big Tech gets in trouble abroad, they call on Washington to twist arms on their behalf. But when families struggle, they’re told government is the problem and the solution lies in the mirror. That’s the rigged game. The real enemy is the wealthy few who captured government and rewrote the rules, so they always win.

Our fight is to give government back to the people, who are its true owners. Government should be your lobbyist, not theirs. Your shield, not their ATM. The American Dream isn’t about the 1% pulling the ladder up behind them and declaring game over—it’s about keeping it steady so anyone willing to work hard can rise. And remember; at the end of Monopoly, one player has everything and everyone else is bankrupt and in servitude. That’s what’s happening to America right now.

But it doesn’t have to be. The people still own this government. And if we reclaim it, we can make it serve us again—so the American Dream is real not just for the privileged few, but for all of us.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
